I am respectfully looking for recommendations for an aviation attorney for a purchase I'm engaging in in Texas (I am not in Texas - Maryland) - purchase agreement writing/review and tax advice.

First time purchase, single engine.

Thanks in advance!
Dave

I'm curious what do you think a lawyer can do or tell you? An accountant can tell you all about the taxes (use, ad valorem or whatever scheme you state has) for much cheaper than a lawyer.

Even if you're buying into an LLC or something, again, CPA not lawyer.

Truth be told, if your agreement isn't simple enough to write on a single sheet of paper then the lawyer fee's to fight it in court are gonna be not worth the effort. A judgement is a piece of paper... getting actual money is much harder.

Might say a bit more about what you are purchasing, how you plan to use it and why you think you need a lawyer.
Single engine could be anything from a Cessna 150 to a Pilatus. No need for the former, perhaps for the latter.
Others have correctly suggested, much better to find a good mechanic for a pre-buy than an attorney.

AOPA PPS provides legal advice. I’d start there. Why an “aviation” attorney? Sounds like you need basic advice at best. The FAA website will guide you to the two forms they need and how to use them.

Call the local tax office and they’ll tell you what State and local taxes may apply.

No. Just no. While I generally agree with you that a lawyer isn't necessary on most smaller dollar aircraft transactions, a CPA is not a substitute for legal counsel when it comes to understanding things like LLC agreements (especially if you're buying into an existing LLC). There's more to an LLC than just the tax considerations (which the right lawyer can also opine on). But why would you ever take legal advice from a non-lawyer (even the ones who like to play lawyer, like some CPAs and real estate agents)?

I am a lawyer, and the "legal advice" I see given to folks by non-lawyer professionals is usually inaccurate (or incomplete, or both), but frequently given with an enormous amount of confidence and authority.
