I called one of the state tax offices to ask about paying any taxes on my aircraft or if there were any registration fees and the lady said there were no taxes or fees unless I purchased the aircraft in Texas (I didn't) and there were no aircraft registration fees. This was a nice surprise this morning! :goofy: I'm starting to like Texas more and more.

If it's like most states, call again Monday and you will get a different answer!:rofl:

There is no state registration for aircraft in Texas. Some local tax authorities here may levy an annual property tax, I know my county does for commercial aircraft but personal aircraft are exempt. There is also an "occasional sale" exemption for sales/use tax if you buy a plane from an individual seller as long as they are not in regular business of selling taxable items.

And don't forget, once you have your receipt saying you paid your sales/use tax, DON'T EVER LOSE IT!

I can absolutely guarantee there is a use tax (sales tax) if you just bought the aircraft. Doesn't matter if you took possession of it in another state unless you paid tax somewhere else they will get you.

Anyway, use your own judgement, but in my case I've always paid the tax and avoided a lot of PITA with the state.

Yes, there is absolutely a sales/use tax.

There are also absolutely exemptions, as the document you linked spends two pages discussing. If one is not buying from an aircraft dealer, there's a good chance the purchase will be exempt.

You should include the following document in your sales paperwork, as the statement is from the seller.
