Terrafugia Animated Flying Car Video

It's about as real as the articles below it, all fluff.

It took how long for the first one? They started in 2006 and have sold none thus far. That's for a flying LSA/car. Now they think they can build a tilt wing rotorcraft for which zero are available for the civilian market and for which the military overspent itself silly developing one.

Forgive me if I don't hold my breath. All that said, one has to applaud innovation in aerospace. Without vision nothing is possible.

Not true. They've sold quite a number of them, just have not delivered any. Current plan (inside dope) is 2015. They are still working on a preproduction model that flies regularly out of Pease, NH and mostly, it's ergonomics. Copy number 4. The others have been retired.
Price has gone up a bit from their original projection of $130K.
And by the way, the same insider told me they trailer it to and from their manufacturing facility. Their main reason for this is the other drivers on the road. THAT is not too hard to believe.

Here's a prototype of their next project: The Terrafuschia

Wow! A Grumman-Suzuki hybrid! What a concept! And Mary-Kay was in on the ground floor! What vision!

The Terrafugia roadable airplane would be fine as a certified airplane, but trying to squeeze that capability within the LSA weight limit may be impossible.

The cartoon Terrafugia powered lift vehicle is impossible with today's technology. They might, just might, be able to make a small powered lift aircraft designed to flown by an experienced pilot with a powered lift certificate. Maybe it would cost less than a million dollars, but I doubt it.

But they are proposing to make a human rated automated powered lift vehicle to be operated by non-pilots.

Think about that.

The FAA doesn't want people flying toy quadcopters for money.

How will the FAA react to the idea of of an automated GA powered lift vehicles carrying passengers over every law school and orphanage in the country?

I believe after Icon got their weight waiver, so did Terrafugia. It appears to possible, but you're paying a hefty premium for a slow flying aircraft that you can drive on the roads. You can buy a nicer plane and have money left over for a better car and still have money kicking around to pay car rental bills at a lot of airports you go on xc.

Scoff all you like, but it will be made real as soon as Terrafugia secures a sufficient quantity of unobtainium with which to build it.

I have it on good authority they're also working on a McFly hover board...
