TEFRA and a pilots medical

I have a 3 year old son with some motor skill problems. We have a heavy PT regime to try and correct. In the meantime we are encouraged by the medial provider to apply for TEFRA for financial reasons. One of the pre-requisites is he must require "an institutional level of care". IMO, he doesn't require any more skilled care than any other 3 year old. My question is, would applying for and receiving these benefits cause issues 15 years from now in the case he decides he also wants to be a pilot?

TEFRA is largely irrelevant. What matters is what is on the child's medical record and what happened in subsequent treatment outcomes. Motor skills by themselves are pretty easy to verify a positive outcome. If other information was inserted (psychological, neurological, etc..) to make the justification, that indeed could be a problem.

Of course, this is all water under the bridge now. Get your child healthy and if they are inclined to become a pilot and can meet the regulatory standards, work with a good AME to see if the history is a factor.

Just don't tell him (the child) about it, then he won't know and not remember 13 years later.
