Teen flies around the country

Took him 40 days in an RV?? Wow I thought they were supposed to be fast!! Or did he get slowed up doing overhead breaks? ;)

Awesome spirit! 1000x better than what most youngsters are up to in their free time these days.

I could do that. I'd be hard pressed to get my parents to fund it, though.

Abbie was unprepared. Abbie attempted the Southern Ocean. Abbie was pushed.

David, I got the idea that he saved for his trip...4 yrs of dreaming come to fruition.

RE: taking 40 days...why the hurry? From the pics on his FB page I got the idea he took several side trips (airboat in the Everglades, banner tow in a J-3). And if I flew down to Key West you can bet it ain't gonna' be a quick turn. Plus the article mentioned he has family around the country. I imagine they would want to visit for more than one night each. Plus he did attend Oshkosh.

Great story. Marginally on topic, a good read is the book "Flight of Passage" by Rinker Buck. On an even more marginal topic, upon getting his pilot's license a friend and I celebrated by seeing how much of the western US We could see over a long weekend. In four days flew 32 hours over 11 states...Mt Rushmore, Devils Tower, Cody WY gun museum, Yellowstone, Grand Tetons, Tavipats Range, Canyonlands, Lake Powell, Glen Canyon Dam, Grand Canyon, Edwards AFB, dinner in Santa Monica, west coast tour, Golden Gate Bridge, Napa Valley, Mt. St Helens flyover, Columbia River Gorge, Glacier National, Teddy Rooseveldt Park, then home. Fun trip!

Hope to do something similar with my son now that he has his license.

Soon after becoming a certified pilot, my wife's uncle flew his T-craft around the USA in 17 days. Upon buying his brand new C-150 he repeated the trip. I think it was 39 states but by then he had so many friends all over the country that trip took 100 days.
