Taxes on Fellowship Stipend

A Faith Based Organization has offered me a partial scholarship. I consider the area of study closer to my calling in life and am seriously considering a career change. Closest analogy is that I would be an ordained minister.

There is an opportunity to turn the scholarship into a fellowship, proposing one with a stipend. If I don't have to pay income taxes then it becomes easier on my benefactor, as I can reduce my ask.

I had a fellowship in college and honestly don't remember if Ibhad to pay taxes on that, plus it was a paltry amount, I still needed another job to pay my living expenses.

What say ye Pilots, Accountants and Internet experts?

Pretty much everything is taxed, but I have a feeling that unless the stipend is huge, you'll be paying very little if no tax on it.
