Target practice

That a PD feels the civilian population of a major American city is too perilous to overfly in a manned aircraft says something, though I can't exactly say what.

Let the mass tazing begin! Skynet is there for us!

Don't taze me bro!

:D

My local PD, they are really tactical. I was at a waffle house one morning about 2am and the local yokel pulled in and got out, slung his AR-15 over his chest and strolled in to get a cup of coffee. He had his full battle dress uniform on with thigh holster and everything.

I thought I had just become part of Police Academy 12 movie. This guy was Tackleberry reincarnated.

Oh and Anthony, talk about Skynet. Google is Skynet, just wait till they start helping with the Census. It will be all over then!

"bought with a federal homeland security grant — to spy on criminals, support SWAT operations and look for missing persons."

So, Homeland security is upgrading our local police departments.

It is nonsense to say they will just spy on criminals, how do they decide which of us are criminals? I'm sure they will ignore the naked lady sunning herself in her private back yard, won't even glance. Definitely not zoom in and take a few stills of her.

Homeland Security is also allowing our local police departments to arm and outfit themselves to the point our military look like amateurs when it comes to dressing for battle. One of the small neighboring towns to San Diego just bought an armored tactical vehicle that any battlefield general would be envious of.

It is a good thing our government is not allowed to deploy the military against the citizenry on our soil. Imagine the turf wars that could develop between the military and our local police. Drones in the sky, tanks maneuvering in city parks, artillery and such.

Yup, we gotta keep America safe and free.

Years ago, before WWII, the Nazi Salute was commonly used in this country. Then the war came, and that little prick with the funny mustache changed all of that. It became a frowned upon method of saluting our flag, or anything else.

One of the things about that salute, is that it feels comfortable and natural by the person who is rendering it. If you don't believe that, stand up and render our accepted salute, then, with the curtains drawn, render a Nazi salute.

Now that we have The Department of Homeland Security, The Patriot Act, and police forces that look like militarized Ninja, I have a feeling we might soon start seeing that salute once again.

Yep, sounds familiar to me. Thanks Bush Administration!

Soon they'll be goose stepping. :(

No doubt. Scary stuff. They [Google] know more about us than our spouses.

I bet they could provide a list right now of married people who are cheating on their spouses (who have more than one Gmail account, one is always logged into via "incognito mode", and has certain keywords they already scan for the ads they show).

Soon we will actually NEED tinfoil hats. To protect us from being Tazed!

That weenie drone chopper is nothing.

Check out our new gunboats! We bought six of them. Texas Navy, GO!

That is extremely disrespectful. The Nazi military killed millions of innocent people. Even if we are being spied on they are not KILLING IN COLD BLOOD. BY equating the US government (which allows you to say things like this, not many other countries do) with such a horrid historical action degrades the deaths of so many millions, Americans that fought and those innocent people that were killed. Watch your mouth and take it to the Spin Zone those comments are not appropriate for the general forum.

UAV's have been in use with Local law enforcement for sometime, atleast SWAT. Now that they can be armed is new to me but the use of them is not.

They should have just bought some surplus PT Boats, then they could have 40MM Bofors, Torpedoes, Depth Charges, and a bunch of M2's.

Guess the Feds really aren't protecting our borders. Hmmm, what are they doing, actually?

Too late...... Just google "fusion centers"... I would bet 100 bucks everyone on here who has voiced their opinion on the TSA or any other disfunctional part of the guvmint is on the local, federal or both "need to snoop on them " list..... It's here guys... like it or not.:yikes:

Your outrage is appreciated. That is the exact reason why such posts should be made publicly, not hidden away on forums as the SZ.

It is probably the single most important reason for our right to free speech, so that voices can be heard. What if some clown in any bureaucracy thought up an idea like re-introducing the Nazi salute? What if there was no forum for feedback on the idea?

I bring up crap such as this just so people will express their opinions. Government does watch these forums, not to spy, but to get a feel of the pulse of the people. By bringing up taboo ideas on an open forum, it helps to insure it will never happen.

Think a little harder about your concept of censoring posters, you might just be doing more harm than good.

There is a VERY thin line between spying and "getting a pulse of the people"....

With that said your next comment pretty much spells out the dilemma we have....

"

That didn't work for the TSA creation and all the comments from the public at large don't seem to be keeping it from growing into a HUGE fiasco.. YMMV. IMHO..

Our police forces would never use non-lethal weapons on anyone other than lawbreakers and then only to quell violence.

TSA was sprung on the people overnight, same with "The Homeland", The Patriot Act, and The Department of Homeland Security.

There were no public forums on those things simply because not one person, in their wildest imaginations, ever dreamed anything like that could happen here in America.

There was no "pulse of the people" to check. It wasn't put to a vote of the people, the people had nothing to do with it. The Bush regime just pushed it into law. Then Mr. "Change You Can Believe In" embraced it with all his heart and soul.

This was a government that could care less what it's constituents thought, it was a chance to grab power, and the people be damned, full water boarding ahead.

I agree 100% on the formation of the TSA and DHS was a knee jerk reaction without public comment... Every little add on has that has been suggested by the guvmint was then shoved down our throat... All the open forums, and public comment be darned. This fusion crap has trickeled its way into every town in america, be it a big city or small outpost... Fact....... You have a trivial complaint with the local commisioners, strangely you end up on the watch list so they can monitor your emails and internet searches so they know your next move.... All in the name a "national" security... This fusion program has such a mass movement behind it and huge amounts of federal aid thrown at it no jurisdiction is about to not accept dollars from DC... Then the "monitors" who scan the internet, in the interest of keeping their jobs, will spend day and night digging stuff up to justify their existance and feed info to the whoever signs their checks... The system feeds on itself... :yesnod::yesnod::yesnod::yesnod::yesnod:... It appears George Orwell was right on, just 20 years off in his predictions..:idea:.. IMHO...

Carry on soldiers.....

What it boils down to is that The Department of Homeland Security is militarizing every police department they can, no matter how small it may be. They are funding everything, uniforms, helmets, body armor, tanks, weapons carriers, gunboats, drone aircraft, helicopters, APCs, machine gins, hand grenades, surveillance systems, anything that even the of pettiest of police chiefs could possibly have on their wish lists.

If they can not use the military to police the populace, then they are simply turning our police into military like units.

The days of dressing the town policeman as a friendly neighborhood cop are rapidly coming to an end. There is a reason for that, they now no longer care what the public thinks. This domestic army that is being built, is paid more than triple what their military counterparts are paid. Many, instead of re-enlisting, are jumping ship to civilian police departments, where the money and fantastic retirement packages are.

And the next Administration... And the next... And the next... Obama won't shut it down. neither will the next guy, or the next.

Nor will Congress de-fund it. No matter what the constituents say they want.

Totally agree. But Bush further opened this door, albeit with Congress, and a lots of R's and D's who in the name of safety and security sold our right to illegal search and seizure, and privacy.

I don't think the main impetus behind UAVs for law enforcement is officer safety, IMO it's more about capability vs cost.

Barney Fife hasn't only been allowed to put his bullet into his gun, he's been given a Howitzer and an APC, too!

Amen. And it's the executive orders that are being signed behind closed doors that worry me most...

Me too. The President can, and has done a lot of damage in the name of "national security" via Executive Order.
