Is there any Tapatalk (or other tablet app) available for the Red Board? Their desktop version is virtually unusable on my Nexus 7. (Just one example: The "search" box doesn't bring up the keyboard automatically. If you try to select the text box, it interprets this as a button push and searches for...nothing.)

Thanks!

No, their forum is behind another layer I security than forum authentication. I.e. you have to be logged into the main site also. That makes it tough for tapatalk to work with it. They say they're investigating how to work around it. Given what I've sen from their IT efforts, I wouldn't hold my breath.

The logical thing would mean you'd use the same account on the main site and the forum. Or the forum would just be aware of your aopa membership. But they're too busy flying around in expensive jets to provide a decent experience for their members.

Looks like a positive for AOPA. They dont have the virus installed. Unfortunately, POA does. I guess that goes to show: sometimes the gremlin (AOPA) has nice tires and sometimes the Cadillac (POA) has a cracked windshield.

I've yet to see any of the IT staff exit the jet when it shows up at the airport. Can you point them out?

That's because they're spending all their money flying around in a jet instead of hiring competent IT staff that can push them past the year 2000.

Why would you want to?

POA is home, but when it comes to certain things -- promoting our upcoming fly-in, for one -- sometimes I stray far afield, even into the depths of the Red Board... :D

Can't argue with that, sure enough.

I would never, ever presume to talk for Nick, but, even though I like Tapatalk, during the times I choose to access a forum via a mobile browser instead the popup advertising Tapatalk access IS extremely annoying.

????

Never seen any, yet.

Yeah, you certainly wouldn't want an aviation organization flying around in a jet. :mad2:

What percentage of their membership operates jets? A tenth of a percent perhaps?

Well, maybe it is one more thing for Android users to crow about ;) Others can chime in.

So I know how Nick feels about Tappa Talk. I'm not so offended by their pop ups as they don't show up to frequently. So my question is what does Tappa talk do for me and why would I want it for use on my iPad to access POA?

I like it for several reasons (that I now miss when viewing the forums via browser)...
- It keeps track of where I've left off in various threads. So, when I reopen the thread I'm taken to the last post that is new to me (i.e., the first post made after I last viewed the thread). Using a browser, I might take my chances and jump to the last page, then work my way forward or backward from there to find the first new-to-me post. What's really nice is that it seems to do this across devices (although, I might be mistaken).

- The threads list shows the first part of the text from the most recent post. (Using a browser, you see the first part of the very first post in the thread.) This helps me see what's going on in a thread and often either encourages me to open a "good" thread I might otherwise have skipped or to perhaps skip something. I find that, rather than reading thread titles as I skim the list (as I do using a browser), I skim the posted text to decided what I'm interested in. (Amazingly, the contents of a thread often bear no resemblance to the title!)

- Presentation / usability of the forums is much friendlier (to me, at least) in Tapatalk than in the browser on a mobile device. Very, very hand on a phone!

- Can set it to pop-up alerts for PMs on schedule (I have mine set to check once per hour).

What's missing (or, what I miss) in Tapatalk:
- Polls
- Formatting
- Some of the smilies

Agree 100%.

95% of the time, I'm on my Nexus 7 tablet or my phone. When I use the PC, as I am right now, and I'm forced to use the actual PofA website, it drives me nuts. I've become totally spoiled by the great features of Tapatalk (outlined by a previous poster), and truly have a hard time using the "normal" interface.

A "first world problem", for sure!

Works fine on my iPad. :D

You can do the same thing by clicking the blue check mark to the left of the thread title rather than the thread title itself. I always start using PoA by going to the User CP, since that shows all the threads I've posted in already - Then I just command-click on the blue check mark to open it to the earliest new post in a new tab, and close the tabs as I read 'em. :)

Shocking! :yikes:

It's good if you're forced to be on a phone, but on a tablet I'd rather be on the web site.

They could put TAPATALK up if they wanted to but the person running red board is obstinate. I run TAPATALK and FORUM RUNNER on another vBulletin site I run (www.ncwoodworker.net). I am sure they could work around the login cookie issue and I volunteered to help, but I don't even get the decency of a reply from those guys.
