Line Up and Wait
I went up on Friday, such a nice day. Winds on the ground were calm. Got up to 10K feet and winds were 30 to 40 something. Went over these mountains and I noted the winds as high as 58 kts. I was perhaps 2k APGL (above peak ground level). So, it appeared pretty clear how we were moving sideways over the ground. I didn't think about it at the time, but I should have aimed directly into the wind and slowed it way down and hover. What was surprising was how glassy smooth the air was in these winds over the mountains. Of course, as I got towards the lee side, it did want to descend some. So, I did not allow very far on that side.
