Superpilot

"The work for the Department of Defense will help “inform integration of autonomous capabilities into Joby’s commercial air taxi platform,” according to company officials."

If it can't meow on guard ... it's worthless.

First, the article's headline is a lie. There was a safety pilot on board.
Second, how did "Super Pilot" communicate with ATC and towers?

I was part of the team to assess the airworthiness for the Military Flight Release to make the flight and conduct the exercise. The aircraft will taxi, takeoff, fly, land, and taxi back without the pilot doing anything, with control from a ground station or autonomously. Sort of like the current Global Hawk, except it is intended to eventually be able to conduct operations in the NAS to include Comms with ATC along with “conflict avoidance” capabilities.

That's cool and all... but who logs PIC?
