Another thread mentioned the Island of Cousins, Main. so I Google Earthed it. Then I started looking for airports and came across a dirt strip called Super Cub Airstrip.

Anyone based there, or been there? I didn't see any airplanes, but there was, what looked like, one large hanger. Just curious.

John: I suspect the "other Island of Cousins" was referencing my poetic piece within my thread about the maintenance on the tall towers. My Island of Cousins was an inverted text for the purpose of rhyme. If you now Google "Cousins Island Yarmouth Maine"(without the " " ) you'll be at the inverted text I used with writer's license. Believe me, there's no airport of any type on Cousins Island in Maine. See photo I took on the same flight as the power plant image. The photo doesn't have all of Cousins Island in it(without the Central Maine Power Co. power plant which is just out of the lower right).

HR(Now, if I can find the photo) {and them ain't natives who live summers in them high-taxed properties} :o)

I'm sorry, I guess I didn't explain it properly. The airstrip I was referring to was not on your island at all. I did enjoy your poetic piece, so much so, that I wanted to see more of that island than your photo showed, so I looked it up on Google Earth.

Then I started wondering what airport your poetic plane was heading for, an hour away from your power station check point, so I started looking around. That's when I came across Super Cub Airfield.

It is actually called "Super Cub Field", in Westbrook, Main. If you Google Earth it, it comes right up.

It's an interesting looking airstrip, so I was wondering if anyone knew more about it.

My having a short attention span and all, I forgot all about trying to find the airport that began my search. Super Cub Field seemed more interesting.

1100'x50' with obstructions on both ends. 1 plane based there for personal use... He doesn't have to worry about me dropping in on him in my Cherokee.

I just went back and looked at it again. I have been using a hypothetical shaded street called Maple Street in several of my posts. I have never lived on a street called Maple Street in my life, but to me, that tree shaded street I invented seemed the ideal of a peaceful American Street.

Just to the north of Super Cub Field, is a street called Maple Street. If you go down to the street view on Google Earth, it is that exact tree shaded street that I had imagined.

The airstrip first caught my attention because it seemed so idyllic to me, then there was that imaginary street. It's almost spooky. Even the houses are what I had conjured up in my mind.

During my flight over Cousins Island I was only about 10 minutes from KPWM Portland International Jetport(though "within the hour"). And Westbrook is in Maine, not Main(and is adjacent to Portland). Though I've not researched Super Cub Field, it's probably one of the many private(or community) landing strips to be found throughout Maine. Being only a three or four minute flight out of KPWM(Class C), it won't be a high profile venue.

HR, even though I totally screwed up Maine (I do that with a lot of words, thanks to my short attention span, I'm already thinking of the next word and forget to add the ending letters of the last. However, due to my almost complete lack of an education, I find myself pretty much dependent on spell check. Spell check liked the way I spelled Main, so Maine, it seems, slipped through the cracks.)

Nevertheless, your poem was excellent, and I did enjoy it. I hope you keep contributing them. :)

Thanks,

John
