Holy cow what a difference!...I know...old news and "duh" for most out there but let me relish in my revelation for a bit.

When I travel I rarely throw the cover on and we all know how the cockpit can cook inside on a hot day and be sweltering while getting things ready as you rush to get the fan turning as soon as you can.

Got a new collapsable windshield sunshade and was amazed at the difference of the internal temp when keeping in place till prop start when I climbed in to head back home. My CFI never taught me this...I am crying foul on being short changed in my training!

That is all...if you do not have one...get one!

The more you know.

Honestly, you've only gotten away without one this long because you hang out in Watsonville.

It SUCKS to get in an unshaded aircraft in SAC in summer.

Though an unfolded paper sectional works (well, sort of) in a pinch. The reflective shades are better, especially if they are in all the windows. Makes preflight take some time, though.

I just moved to Texas, I need one of those. Where did you get the awesome eyes?

With the low wing the cockpit cover goes on quick and shades all windows. Still, gotta like the eyes, maybe I need one for my truck.

I just got some silver reflective ones on the advice of a friend but haven't used them yet (I will this weekend - flying in to a wedding in 100 degree Missouri) I'm sure they help but my concern is the extra time it takes of fidgeting with something while in the heat. My airplane has very effective AC so I'm really trying to minimize time before engine start when it is hot sitting on the ramp. I wonder if the shades will ultimately help or not.

Doesn't the chute double as a sun shade? :D

yeah, we all knew and purposely didn't tell you. We always laughed at you on hot summer days. :p
