For a long while now, putting magnets on both drain plugs and amazed with the crud they attract. Evolving this now with two more magnets in the sump screen.

Notable is the need for cavity steel pipe plugs to hold the mags. Fresh mags bind securely into them. I used to glue them but found this unnecessary, for me. Also, the mags lose their strength in the hot oil so must be replaced.

This is in addition to ringing the spin-on with its own magnets.

Look, another 10mm socket... .

If its making it past the filter then it is probably so fine that its not a wear issue. I would rather run a bypass filter (more oil, more filter surface area, and can filter out non-magnetic particles) than a magnet.

If a part of the engine is wearing and putting metal in the oil, by the time it gets to the pan its already gone through critical parts of the engine (bearings, galley etc).

The only reason the oil in airplane engines is so bad is because the lead causes problems with actual useful additives like forming deposits in the cylinder.
