Stunt plane loses wing... for real this time

talked about this with some local aerobatic guys last night. apparently it was a Rans S-9 which is certainly aerobatic but apparently he asked a little more out of it than it was willing to give.

I agree, good thing he had the BRS.

Youtube and abc say he survived...burned foot.
Youtube quotes pilot as to cause "metal fatigue". Definition problem or pilot knows something we don't or a cya comment?

Negative G's in a strut braced wing,... probably got away with it so many times before, but this was just to much. Really seemed like a softer landing with that wind blowing and I'm sure that helped the impact. The investment in the BAS paid off, more aerobatic guys should take this to heart and add them in if they can.

Wow, kudos on popping the chute so quickly. Didn't een look like there was a moment of "Oh crap, did that really happen?"

Wing pops off, BRS deployed, perfectly handles, methinks.

The BRS worked great here. I also see the plane in flames though which reminds me of the poor guys in the sr22 in colorado that had a midair with a tow plane, which would have been better with no brs.
