This quote came from the EAA forums ..
but my airplane came off the assembly line in 1939 with Serial Number L-3769. One engine change during that 73 years and still flying fine.

kinda shoots the overhaul time common thinking all to hell.

Oh you gotta fly them all the time. Yeah right :)

You made a believer out of me when you succintly mentioned how they don't build them like they used to. Then pointed out proof of that.

"n=1"

I would like to see some statistics ie how many of 1000 such engines fared as well, or is this one an anomaly.

I believe the part left off of,
"Engines flown regularly live longer....." is:
"...in general. Of course there will be outliers on each end of the bell curve".

These are C-65 they are left setting for years with out any prez and they start and run fine no prep just jump in the aircraft and go after setting a year or so.
If they are lucky they get filled with oil and left for years, drain the oil, add 5 qts of what ever, and a away you go.

I know of several that sat for well over 20 years and they started and ran great.

just be sure to prime the oil pump. we tipped the L-2 up on it's nose.
