If you really enjoy Stearmans then you have to get to KGBG Galesburg, Illinois for the National Stearman Fly In Convention. Flew in with Bernie from 1G1 and had a great day. Lots, I mean lots, (125 registered) Stearmans on the field with all kinds of paint and engine combinations. Some very stock, others rare, with great providence.

The Convention started Labor Day and runs through Sunday 9/10 and is definately worth the $5 gate. Great afternoon of knocking around historic vintage aircraft at a super airport. Topped off the tanks at 3.85/gal and back home in 2.6. Good day out flying.

Yup! I was also surprised to find out how cheap they are - Chuck had a darn nice one, and he said similar examples can be found in the $90,000 range. Cool.

Yeah! Then double that money & you've got enough for a nice long trip by yourself if you have a half a year...

Just kidding, they're cool old planes! All nice PIX above too, thanks.

One of the Yellow Perils stopped by M11 on its way home from Galesburg this afternoon. The pilot had gotten stopped by a line of showers south of the airport. He was lucky as usually there is no one at M11 on a Sunday afternoon. I was out mowing around the runway lights and let him take a look at the internet weather radar. He headed to Natchez to spend the night...90 miles from home, Gonzales, LA, and hope for better wx in the morning.

I'd like to make Galesburg myself one day.

They have an "end of season" Stearman fly-in at Jennings, LA (the one with the Holiday Inn next to the parking area). Not as big as Galesburg, but fun nonetheless.

Hey, I'll be heading home that Thursday from my regular hitch and will go past Jennings - I think I"m gonna stop for the dance and food! Thanks for the info Steve! I used to hit Galesburg every year when I was in Iowa and loved it - this will certainly help get my airplane fix!
