STC to replace dual mag with two independent mags

Following up on this thread

6 months later I finally got my airplane back after numerous repairs.

The shop that did my annual was able to overhaul the mag on-site. They did a great job. The engine is very smooth now.

The shop did the work as inspect and repair as necessary. They changed the capacitor and some other parts.

6 months for a dmag overhaul? Ornhad other things that needed fixing?

That isn't an overhaul. That's an inspection. Go back to post #39.

The mag overhaul was one of the first things done. This was one of those everything delayed until now annuals. From fuel tank leaks to gear strut rebuilds to exhaust pipes, and even some gear door composite work.

Being that I had so much to get done I had to be cost conscious on things like the mag.

Other than what the paperwork says, it runs good as new and good to go 500 more hours. By that time I will be looking at a full engine overhaul and stc conversion to two mags.

Really significant here is whether the Recurrent AD or do you have the

newer version with the heavy Spring? This something YOU should really

aware of. A 500 Hour Inspection doesn’t automatically mean it’s good

for another 500 Hours!

The guy who did mine does 100's of them. I didn't give him a budget. I just asked him to make it work for 500 more hours, inspect and repair as necessary. He checked all of my ADs and updated my AD log. But I'll check the paperwork just to be sure.

This was just one area were the money was put to use elsewhere. There are shops that can overhaul them. I'm sure there's a bunch of average Joes out there who cut corners. This guy isn't a corner cutter. You can tell but how thorough the entire inspection was. The entire work order is many pages long.
