Is there an STC to put landing lights in the starboard wing in addition to the ones in the port? It really shouldn't be hard. Is there an intercostal rib for the port side ones?

I don't want to get a bigger hangar. The one I have leaves about 3" clearance on either tip. I know there are wingtips with lights built into them, but I don't want to increase the span.

I like light, and redundancy. I think a lights on either wing would be great. With LEDs and HIDs, load factor would not be an issue.

FWIW, here are a few 337's that have been passed around the various Cessna forums if it would help when submitting your own

This is excellent! Thank you so much. I took a risk and bought the used parts off of eBay to get me started. I am a big fan of having abundant light when taxiing. One of the best moves I made in my Sundowner was adding a starboard taxi light assembly when the plane was painted. The Cessna's lights are not so far outboard as the left landing light was on the SD, but I also am a big fan of symmetry. Turns to the right on a dark taxiway in the SD was frightening. You just kept going and only stopped if you heard a crunch.

I'm pretty sure my Stene wingtips with integrated, very bright lights are the same dimensions as the tips they replaced - no extra span. Maybe easier and cheaper than starting to work with metal in the wing?

I just had a set of wings overhauled, I had asked him to remove the landing light in the left wing but apparently he forgot and left the light. I'd prefer to NOT have the landing light in the wing. My intent was to remove it and go with the Stene tips, I think that is the way to go.

I single wing light should have taxi and landing elements, so redundancy is already achieved. For daytime recognition? Get a MaxPulse and flash both elements simultaneously. If looking for improved night light? Improve the elements. A single recognition light is very effective for getting seen. I can see alternating wingtip flashers from further away but recognition from 20 miles isn't very important when a single is easy to see from 15 miles. Inside a mile, when it matters? Either works fine. My 180 has dual nose lights on a MaxPulse. Tower has always seen me from 5 miles when I turn in. I ask occasionally to make sure.

Stene Quasar CX wingtips on my 182. Love ‘em!

Not a super simple install, but maybe easier than cutting a new mid-wing light. Plus the STC approval work is already done!

[Stock leading edge wingtips on my Horton equipped wing. The Quasar wingtips only made for either the stock leading edge or Sportsman’s. I had to fabricate my own endplate.]

What would be involved with mounting the Stene tips if the STOL cuff was not in place? would it just be a screw in addition?

I called Stene and they said their tips would not extend the wingspan beyond that of the factory tips.

It’s fairly easy. The tips come undrilled so you match the mounting screw holes with your wing and drill through the fiberglass tip as well as the supplied aluminum stiffeners.

Stene supplies all the wiring, circuit breaker and switches.

Yup, just a screw-in, and possibly the need to run another wire or two depending on how your wingtip lighting is already set up.

I was able to get a video of my son landing my plane today. The Quasar CX’s were on Pulse and the mid wing were alternating. It’s amazing how much brighter the Quasars are!
