Are there any of these coastal airports with a bit longer of a runway ? I am thinking about a ME trip in September, but 2100ft is a bit on the short side for a trip with 4 and luggage.
We landed at Eastport. I was in the back seat photo platform. There were two planes tied-down and a beauty tail-dragger in a hangar. We were greeted by a delightful "Deb" and her airport dog "Pitot-Tube." Deb gave pilot Randall, island spotter Ted(Maine DEP Environmental Specialist), and me an oral history lesson re the area, and told us where to find the key for the Ford Econoline van which we took to the Happy Crab Restaurant/Pub a few miles from the airport which(I THINK) Randall said is 5000 feet.
Upon departing, there was a large gaggle of geese left of runway. Probably Canadian, we assumed they had proper clearance to be on this side of the International Line, speaking of which - - to get photographs, Randall pulled some pretty steep turns so as to not bust the border. From the Happy Crab deck we just looked across the water to Canada, and my iPhone flashed information about how to effect "International" calls. I got aerial shots of Eastport, Lubec(both looking across to Canada), Grand Manan Island, Cutler(Radio Tower Field of 1000' structures)[U S Navy], and other places.
The Eastport Airport Manager is "Jim" whose card is not here on my iPad but I'll add the information later. Easternmost airport in U.S. -- DO it!
