Some days I wonder why I agree to take off. This cloud cover is not conducive to a 3500 agl over the airport.

must be some mighty strong tie downs to keep that plane in place.

Turns out the bases were at 4500 agl. Not too bad.
 
Interesting, as my wife and I were on the ground I asked her the ceiling. See said 1800 ft AGL, and I guested 2100 ft. We called a nearby airport AWOS and it was 2000 ft.

If there is any sort of texture to the base I can get pretty close to the ceiling. But if it is smooth, solid concrete overcast, I can be wrong by thousands of feet.
 
We don't have cloud reporting here so it is always a challenge. Sometimes the only way to find out is to go up and see where they are.
