I previously had an SI for major depression and after years off of medication and a maintaining an SI, I was given a letter of approval about 5 years ago, essentially saying I was free and clear and no longer needed a SI.
In 2023 I was diagnosed with adjustment disorder and went back on medication. I haven’t flown since. I understand this will be viewed as a recurrent episode and I will need to be on an SSRI forever now, despite the fact that it was adjustment disorder due to a life stressor.
I’ll be ready to go through the HIMS evaluation, cogscreen, etc. in June after being on a stable dose for 6 months. I’m a 121 pilot.
I’m trying to understand what kind of timeline I’m looking at for recertification moving forward. I see in threads here anywhere from 4 months to 18 months plus.
Does anyone have experience with a situation like this? Am I to expect my case will be a standard SSRI path? Is there any consideration for the fact that the FAA has already dug into my past diagnosis, or am I starting all over?
