My son is 18 and has a goal of 1st class certification. At the age of 12 he was experiencing some anxiety issues. His primary doctor referred him to a Clinical Psycholigist where he had about 3 visits over a 6 month period. The Clinical Psycholigist sent a letter to his primary doctor which included: "Diagnostic Impression" of Generalized Anxiety Disorder with Obsessive Traits. In the treatment plan of the letter, he encouraged the primary doctor to discuss trying an SSRI.

8/18 - The primary doctor prescribed an SSRI.
10/22 - Primary Dr recommended weaning down to 5mg and then stopping medication.
10/22 - Prescription last filled and weaned off shortly after. We still have the bottle and it's full. Plus doctor web portal shows date last filled.
12/23 - Doctor noted to continue medication and "Doing well, does not want to wean down at this time". This conflicts with the note from 10/22.

He's been off the med for 2+ years with no issues, doing great. We have an appointment with the primary doctor to get a current physical and try to get clarification on the contradicting notes. We are attempting to get the medical records (Clinical Notes) from the Clinical Psychologist. They are looking into it for me and aren't sure they keep the records that long which I find really strange.

Is there anything we could do to possibly avoid a deferral?

If you allow the 12/23 note to stand, NOPE.

And then, to get an sort of certification you have to go to the ON SSRI program as he would have been on meds for >>5 years.

(1) Prove: from the 10 year pharmacy dispense record that he was off by 12/22 - by pharmacy dispense record and remaining pill count (get the "PIlls remaining = #, destroyed into the record).

(2) Your MD is a clown....or at least his record is. If you allow 12/23 to stand you son's only option will be the ON SSRi protocol, or "decision path 2 with its attendant continuing psychiatry requirements and costs and a lifelong commiting to being on one of the 7 possibly certifiable drugs.

There are some circumstances in which this could be issued in the office if you can prove off of meds since 12/2022 (latest possible 08/2023). But that would require reading the doc's record, your corrections to the record, and the 10 year pharmacy search + remaining pill count establishing these facts.

Thank you for taking the time to respond. I planned on going to my pharmacy to get their records. Is there a specific place to get an overall 10 year dispense report? Like to show we aren’t going to multiple pharmacies.

No, but one can pretty much tell by what isn't on it, that there is another vendor. Usually you have to get the address from the pharmacist, and write away, about $10.00 and in 2 weeks, a 50 page doucment appears in your mailbox, with numbered pages. If you have two known vendors, get two such reports.

Got it. Thanks again!

Good news, the Clinical Psychologist still has his file so we'll be collecting his records for my sons (2) visits with him in 2018 at the age of 12. The psychologist suggested to the primary doc to discuss an SSRI with us in 2018 as it may be helpful and it was actually the primary doc that prescribed. Would it be benfcial for him to have an actual visit with the same psychologist to document where he is today? Also, I have the (10) year pharmacy records coming by mail. They could only print (2) years off at at the pharmacy but that (2) years is clear of the SSRI med. He should turn all records over to the AME at the time of exam correct?

If I read this correctly, I would ask nothing more from your PCP other than to amend his 12/23/record (and confront him with the pharmacy records). You want as little from that clown as possible on your son's record....but sadly you may have to have an appointment with him to get that correction.

The pscyhologist does NOT CONTROL prescription and so is not the answer.
