For some, spring is when the flowers bloom, nature becomes more beautiful, the weather starts getting nice, etc., etc.

For we folks in Tornado Alley, and some others:

IT'S TORNADO SEASON!

This was taken near Clinton, OK on Monday April 22. I don't think it produced a twister, but it is an utterly beautiful, but menacing booger.

Uuummm, Center we're going to need 90 left for weather...

Awesome picture.

Beautiful Storm!!

I actually enjoy stormy weather. Of course the ones that don't personally affect people. It's neat to see the power of the sky and the beauty of storms.

The always disappointing thing is that my part of Arkansas, it's just hilly enough to hide most of the cloud. :(

Agreed. An approaching thunderstorm can be such a beautiful, majestic sight........right before it rearranges your neighborhood.

BTW, the picture is of a supercell. For you folks outside of 'nader country, that's a thunderstorm that contains a mesocyclone, which is a rotating updraft imbedded in the storm. This "meso" can make the cell look like a slinky or a screw. The stuff that twisters are made of.

Raise your hand if you know what a hook echo is ;)

I grew up in OK. I wish I could have brought Gary England with me when we left. I used to say I'd rather have the seasonal tornadoes than deal with earthquakes, but now you guys have those too.

Don't forget about the quakes back in the 1800s just up the river from you that made the Mighty Mississip run backwards. They will happen again.

And yes, Gary England is as good as they come.

yes we have plenty of hook echos here in the Ohio valley. Nothing like OK but we get our share

I fully expect that it'll come the day before I have movers scheduled to leave. I always have impeccable timing. Buddy of mine (from Shawnee) was at the airport in Japan waiting for a flight to move back to the states when that whole Fukushima thing happened.
