I have a friend living in Rockland Country, NY (about 30 miles north of NYC) who's interested in learning to fly. His interest is in fun flying, the homebuilt/bush/acro simple side of flying. Are there any flight schools within a reasonable drive that aren't looking to train students to fly the latest glass cockpit modern birds on instruments? Due to traffic anything east of the city on Long Island isn't an option.

It's a little bit of a drive from Rockland County, but I believe Great Barrington in Mass (KGBR) still offers primary training in J-3 cubs. It doesn't get much simpler than that, or much more fun. Great people there.
