Hello just a quick question if anyone has been in the same position, If your deemed "substance dependency" from a hims psych eval and don't necessary agree with the diagnosis but willing to "jump through the hoops" and do the rehab, NA and constant test. If you get issued a special issuance and prove complete abstinence from anything in lets say 4-7 years are you able to dispute the psych evals decision and get it dropped? I have no issue renewing a medical for special issuance but just wondering if under a "dependency" diagnosis if your stuck forever on the hims ame step down plan. I have started Rehab and my licensed physician has deemed me not "dependent" on anything, Obviously he isn't a FAA certified but he is board certified. Even my AME said he does not agree with the "diagnosis" considering all the available data to prove it but must go off the Psych eval.

So if anyone has been in a similar situation of "Marijuana dependency" with proven 8+ years of sobriety and has gotten off of a special issuance I would love to hear your story! :)

What you don't "get" is that the local AME (who is not HIMS trained) does not understand the part 67 definition of dependency. That is not the same as that found in DSM-5. If, you have have had increasing tolerance and even if you have been provably abstienent every 25 days for years, but if you have not had the education (which is what rehab. really is, and a demonstarted cadre of peer support), you are still not "dependent in remission" according to part 67. If you cannot articulate the structure of and the living of recovery, you are not in recovery.

You never get off the SI for dependency. Even after the eighth year, you have to be issued every 6 months by a HIMS AME who is also an evaluator (even when no urines, peer notes, AA/NA meetings are ever again requried). Someone with evaluative skill has to warrant, each time, that you appear to remain in remission. Whyzat? the RECIDIVISM rate!!.

Just ask your local hospital board. The dependent medical staff pee in the cup FOREVER.
