Hi all..
Just after some guidance if possible.. I'm heading to LA and San diego later this year on vacation from the uk.. Apart from going through the fiasco of getting another reciprocal licence ( just converting my caa to EASA ). I'm looking to what options are around for something different, at a not to expensive cost.. Tail dragger etc.. Or just some good recommendations on places to see from the usuall pa28 hire..
I usually get across to Florida with the family and do some airtime there, but have decided California is way overdue....

Just a bit of background on me.. Been flying since 98, currently around 180h total.. And have a share in a pa28 180... Based in Essex uk..

Cheers
Mike

In LA?

KAVX and/or L35. L35 is accessible in a Warrior, but you have to watch your load carefully.

Both are fabulous sightseeing. If you want to go a bit further, there is KMMH, but that route is notorious for mountain turbulence.

There appears to be a nice aerobatic school at KSZP. I don't know anything about it beyond its existence.

Contact Plus One Flyers, http://www.plusoneflyers.org/, in San Diego. They have the biggest most varied rental fleet in the country I know of, and the rates aren't bad either. They are quite used to Europeans coming over and renting the planes for longer trips/tours around the country.

Might want to check out Justice Aviation at Santa Monica. They have a Warrior and an Archer III on their current list. Haven't flown with them in several years, but they seemed like a very professional outfit at the time.

If you want economy and are actually interested in a taildragger, try this place at KSDM in San Diego.

http://www.firstflightcorp.com/

They have a Champ that is cheap and fun. Did my tailwheel add-on, met their insurance minimums to fly it solo, and did a flight review all in 11 hours of dual.

The rates on their other ships are competitive, too... and a friendly place with good instruction and maintenance. As tower-controlled experiences go, Brown is pretty laid-back; another plus.

Hi guys..

Many thanks for the info.. Some of those I'll be looking into..
It might be that I'll be up near cable airport at the start of my holiday visiting some friends, and maybe able to get a quick trip in before heading down to San Diego .. So if anyone has any info around this or any operators I'd appreciate it

Cheers again..
