I'm interested in getting hold of a 100gal ferry tank for a 172 to use for a month or so. Something like the TurtlePac would be ideal. I'm loathe to pay well into the four figures for a very temporary item, and then have it sitting around, and figure there must be plenty of them sitting around not being used. Anyone know of an opportunity for a loaner/rental tank?

The hard part is the paperwork. You need the STC/337 filed and a copy CARRIED WITH YOU to use such tanks.

Look at the boating industry. There are some collapsible fuel bladders, similar to the TurtlePac. They're still expensive but generally cheaper than the aviation specific ones.

Have you called any ferry companies/people and see if they know of one for use?

good luck on getting a field approval on a tank made for a boat.

Turtle-Pacs aren't made just for airplanes either... ;)

As with everything aviation related, I'd guess this is highly subjective depending on what FSDO you're dealing with. What one approves, another one won't.

true, but turtle-pacs have been approved may times. saying, "they guy down at west marine says this will work great" is a tougher sell.
