I've been tasked with getting replacement nose cowl plugs for our C182P.

I've found one set I like from Bruce Aircraft Covers: https://www.aircraftcovers.com/182 One feature I like about these are the "you forgot to remove them, dummy!" flags that you can see from the cockpit.

Are there any others out there that folks would recommend?

We have those on the CAP 182. The flags aren't actually that easy to see in a 182. BUT, if you drape the connecting cable over the top of the spinner, cranking the engine will fling them off the aircraft.

I have Bruce's and love them for my 182...three years on the ramp and they are still good as new. They will also embroider your tail # on them which can deter theft.

I actually caught the flags once from the cockpit when I was about to fire up just doing a quick taxi to fuel and did not do a full preflight as I was not flying, so they do help.

I'll second to have a strap going around the prop so it'll toss them before you takeoff.

Also ask yourself if you really need them, shy of heavy bird activity they arnt really needed and in the cold you need a cowl blanket anyways, which eliminated the need for the plugs. I've never owned a pair of them, I'm ether bare or with a cowl blanket, or in the hangar.

We're also hangared anytime we're at home, and very little bird action. But this is a group think item and more of group wants them than the rest.

Many of us at our local grass strip use cowl plugs despite being hangared. Birds aren't the issue as much as mud/dirt daubers. It helps reduce the number of dirt nests one finds.

This space intentional left blank.

I have the Bruce plugs on my liberty, very well fitting.

Mike,

I have these on my 182P and like them. They are good quality and a nice tight fit. A couple of things I don't like. In a wind the flag laps against the nose cowl making marks. If the post the flags are attached to were a little longer this would not happen. Also, after a heavy rain you might find the inner foam is wet.
