I swear it was there on taxi, but gone after climbout... I could be mistaken, it could have been obscured from my field of view, and we taxied early morning when it wasn't that bright out yet.

Yes I did. When we both looked out, this is what we saw:
Seriously I did tell a flight attendant, and he called up front. Then he came back and basically said the captain was aware, and was not concerned about the safety of the flight.
As to whether we had it when we took off or not, I'm still not sure!

From the picture it is hard to tell but I don't see any damage that would suggest it came off in flight. It was probably removed due to damage and placed on CDL.
