Software update

With the new software, when I go to the homepage, I see notifications on the upper right as always, but nothing after it.
When I go to the forums page or something else, THEN I see that I have unread messages etc..

Do I have a setting wrong somewhere or just the way it is now?

The only time I've seen a notification is when I have a profile message, as opposed to a private message, i.e., I can only view it if I go to my profile page.

Figured it out.
When I HAVE a private message now it doesn't show anything but "notifications" and nothing after it.
When I have nothing (most of the time) it shows like it always did.
