And as I looked up and down the field I said "Hmm, this looks like it could have been an airport." Level, smooth, straight 200' wide x thousands of feet long clearing. So I walked down to end of the complex and there was a parking lot. It looked a lot like the threshold of an abandoned runway.
And then I pulled up the forgotten airfields site and it was pretty obvious that we were at the old Carrollton Municipal field that was closed about 50 years ago. The main runway area is still easy to discern and with a little effort the cross runway is easy to pick out too.
