So Sad, (a cross post from the red boards)

It feels so uncaring to think this but it seems like we can expect one or two fatals and several mishaps assoc with Osh each year.
I don't think it has a lot to do with the event itself - perhaps statistically no difference - but the sheer numbers of hours flown peaks then, so accidents do as well?
Although enough happen on approach & landing you might suspect distractions play a role. It can be overwhelming to the extent people might forget to FTA.
 
I agree dave. with the tight arrivals, fast airplanes especially are really at a disadvantage and it takes a fair amount of proficiency to get the job done right. this whole thing was discussed extensively on the last pilotcast but it is about the most serious flying VFR guys will see
