Smoking

Yes and no. A requirement during the interview is that you have to be comfortable working in a smoking environment.
I'm curious how they are getting around this law.

New Mexico

  • Statewide smoking ban: On June 15, 2007, the Dee Johnson Clean Indoor Air Act went into effect, banning smoking statewide in all enclosed workplaces in New Mexico, including all bars and restaurants, as well as within fifty feet of the entrances to those places.[209][210] The Act exempts (1) private residences except when being used to provide commercial childcare, adult care, and/or healthcare, (2) retail tobacco stores, (3) cigar bars, (4) tobacco manufacturing facilities, (5) casinos, (6) quit-smoking programs, (7) designated outdoor smoking areas, (8) private clubs, (9) limousines under private hire, (10) designated hotel/motel smoking rooms, (11) enclosed areas within restaurants, bars, and hotel/motel conference/meeting rooms that are being used for private functions, (12) cultural or ceremonial activities by Native Americns, (13) non-bar/restaurant businesses with fewer than two employees that is not usually accessible to the public and all employees agree to allow smoking, and (14) stage, motion picture, or television productions involving smoking as part of the production.[211] Penalties are $100 for a first violation, $200 for a second violation within 12 months and $500 for the third and subsequent violations.[212] Local governments may regulate smoking more stringently than the Act.[213]

Are they saying they are a tobacco manufacturing facility?

On another note, why would quit smoking programs allow smoking?

I'm reminded of a short Sci Fi story where society had completely outlawed tobacco
products because of the dangers of smoking. The society also had a death penalty,
but allowed prisoners on death row to choose their method of death. So the guy
chose to die from smoking...

Just know that dieing early is a likely outcome. My friend one office down the line just had a heart attack. He has smoked for 40 years. Suddenly he found the reason to quit.....

Sadly, my father smoked for about 30 years and it cost him his life w/ COPD. The man suffered like hell over the last 10 years. Death was a relief!
Sorry, Zero tolerence for smokers!

Adults should be allowed to smoke outside wherever they want. I love the smell of second hand smoke, reminds me of the good life.

Good question. We are a marketing facility, and of the 4 offices (Reno, NV, Tobaccoville, NC, Winston-Salem, NC, and Santa Fe, NM, only Reno manufactures tobacco products. I do know we have special state audits to test our compliance as a smoker friendly workplace. Maybe the fact that we all had to agreee to smoking was what allows it.

Probably as a way of weening. That does seem weird tho.

Not a problem guys... The new mandatory national health care will have a clause in your policy that cancels your insurance if you smoke...
See, one tiny rule and it is a smoke free country... Just like a TFR, solves the problem...

Typical pinko Liberos, cramming useless legislation down our smoke filled throats. At least Obama will be uninsured. :yesnod:

This is Hangar Talk. Save the trashtalking for the SpinZone.

Why is it so difficult to ignore a poster. I'm serious, I always forget how to do it. There should be an ignore option when you click on their name.

You were way out of line. Biology teachers should teach biology not health. Let the health teachers save our kids. You keep to phyla, bugs and cell excrement.

Thanks.

So when I'm teaching about mutations and cancer, I should just fail to mention the number one source of mutations and cancer in the western world?

I am simply responding with those who support smoker's rights, you know, the ones, like you, who believe that it is a witch hunt to ban smoking in public.

I demand my right to inhale without consent second hand smoke which is exactly what happens when smoker's rights are upheld and can smoke in public, outside, as you claimed.

I really don't understand either your hostility or attitude since we are in complete agreement. smoker's should have the right to inflict disease and possibly death on me, compromise my health and why? Because they are addicted, they have to have somewhere to smoke (other than trapping themselves in their own domiciles :nono:) and the right to smoke is Constitutional. isn't it?

So let's settle down there, Bub, and go outside and enjoy some second hand smoke...together.

:cheerswine:

If you say so....

Yeah, but that's after viewing their profile. You can click on their name in the post and choose "Add to Contacts" but not ignore. When I'm ignoring people (and right now, that list consists of 2 people), I don't want to look at their profile, I want to ignore them.

Maybe I'm just lazy.

Methinks there is perhaps some serious chain yankin' goin hereabouts..........:yesnod:

Of course there is, but considering the responses to someone who had mentioned that their father died, chain yankin' or not, I have no desire to read that kind of rubbish ever again.

It makes me sick.

What kind of rubbish is that Nick? What's your point? I posted about my father death related to COPD? You have an issue with that?

I thought I opened a Newsgroup reader when I saw the wackiness posted in this thread.

No Andy, it's not you. Nick's offended for you, that you have to read stupid stuff in a thread where you discuss your loss. There's something else going on here, and I'll leave it at that.

Goodbye POA!
Management, you have mail!

Sent in PM as well as posted:

I was referring to ThePetroState's comments about your father's death, not your father's death. I thought your post about your father was a very appropriate place to discuss it, as you are trying to avoid encouraging smoking amongst your peers.

I am PMing you (as well as responding) because you said you were leaving, and I don't know if you'll read that thread anymore. I am very, very sorry that you took what I said incorrectly. I was (and am) disgusted at ThePetroState's use of your father to tell jokes and yank chains. He even edited one of his posts in which he made a disgusting comment related to your father, but probably thought better of it.

Moreover, Andy, if you are leaving because of my actions, please reconsider, as I really meant no harm.
