Small push back against security theatre

So you want to print counter cultural people, for security reasons. Haven't seen a lot of base jumpers bombing buildings. Just another intrusion into people's private lives ,under the guise of national security.

Good for them. Now if everyone would do the same (ahem, pilots), maybe we could unite against onerous government regulations...

I'm guessing there will be plenty of videos of people BASE jumping off the fingerprint reader, until it gets blown up, stolen and sold on eBay, covered in ladies panties, etc, jumpers tend to be less meek compared to the general population.

I like how the guy complaining admits that the jumpers don't want to be fingerprinted because they're criminals. I wonder if he thinks that's helping his argument.

He doesn't need to make an argument, the govt needs try to make a lame argument to violate peoples rights and privacy.

They have had background checks for years at Bridge Day and the Park Service has served warrants there, the criminal and ninja basejumpers were already avoiding the place.

So...

It's too much work to do a quick bag-check, but *not* too much work to spend vastly more resources fingerprinting 100's of people who have turned out for an official, sanctioned, one-time event?:mad2:

Do they fingerprint everyone who drives over the damn thing? Easier to hide explosives or whatever in your SUV than your parachute pack.

Yup. The bridge stays open they just split two lane one side into opposing low speed traffic. But you know basejumpers are evil, some of those guys don't even have jobs...:hairraise:

Fingerprinting only works if that person has a record and has been fingerprinted before by LEO. If memory serves me correctly, a bunch of the 9/11 idiots didnt have a criminal background, hence no fingerprints on file

Total waste of money

I have flown down to Bridge Day in the past. Won't bother this year!

I can help major Scott find a terrorist. All I will need is a mirror.

So a terrorist is going to BASE jump off a bridge and do what, exactly? Carry a bomb on? That they could do the other 364 days a year with no scrutiny whatsoever. . .

These asinine security efforts that make zero sense if someone just gave it a moment of thought. If a terrorist wanted to blow up the bridge - why would he wait for Bridge Day?

What is the possible use of this security if not for developing a database of who does it?

Good way to round up 10-99's (wanted). I'm sure there are some with outstanding warrants from previous illicit jumps in other jurisdictions or for other illegal activities.

Ya wanna jump...better be clean.

Nope. There was already a background check done with name, dob, and as numbers. This is about out of control govt not catching crooks. True ninjas and the wanted have avoided bridge day for 20 years.

He does if he wants to sway popular opinion to his side. Saying, "We won't agree to be fingerprinted because we're criminals,"may have the opposite of intended effect.

That's irrelevant.

The fact that the drooling masses will let TSA touch their sons and daughters in ways that would land a stranger in jail or shot, and the over all amount of crap we let our public servants get away with astonishes me...people get the govt they deserve.

I for one would not comply.

These are the type of people this country was founded by and for.

Bring a bunch of friends who want to jump, with legal CCWs, and simply say "no thank you" and carry on with your business.

It's just another example of how Big Brother is using the threat of terrorism to justify an end run around the Fourth Amendment in an effort to unconstitutionally apply anti-terrorism surveillance methods to civil law enforcement.

Rich

Funny how big brother is the biggest baddest "terrorist" of all.

Now now Rich, it's for the children! ;)

They should be more concerned about people's heads exploding when they read that article. How ridiculous.
