I am working on receiving a class 3 medical. Due to a history of ablation for A-fib/A-flutter the FAA has sent me a letter asking for, in addition to other items, a type 1 or type 2 sleep study. I would like to keep the costs down and complete the study at home.

Does anyone here have experience with at-home type 2 sleep studies, and have a recommendation for a reliable company?

Thanks!

Gabriel

I did an in-clinic sleep study maybe 20-years ago
then maybe 2 years ago I did an at-home study because my insurance company denied the real study. I can't help with any recce's for a provider...I just went through the local healthcare chain's sleep group.

I don't think the study was all that great, personally. It's just an oversized wrist-watch sort of thing with a short lead extending out to a fingertip pulse-ox sensor. It really interrupted my sleep cycle and came off many times through the night.
My garmin watch gives a better pulse-ox sleep report!
The in-clinic study interrupted my normal sleep too, with all teh wires and tubes, but at least it's observed and controlled to get more information

I guess it's good enough to check a box, but if you want better data, my opinion is to go for an in-clinic study

I expect that my insurance will cover nothing.

FAA tells me that I need the type 1 or 2, which captures more data. 7 channels of polysomnogram goodness! I expect to be fully wired for light and sound!

I reached out to EffortlessSleepDisgnostics.com today and they claim that their at-home type 2 study meets FAA requirements. Has anyone here used their services?

The guy who runs the site, a sleep specialist was very helpful in making certain I had attached the monitors in the correct locations securely. If you do go this route, please take advantage of his availability to make sure it records all it needs to.
