The skycatcher is great for shorter people but I'm coming up against a dilemma of gaining some rather tall students. Has anyone heard or know anything against taking the back seat cushion out? It's only velcroed in and this would give them significantly more knee room and not hit the stoke and the carb heat on their knee. The only thing I can think of is it might be a safety issue from the back not to have a cushion but it’s also a safety issue not to be able to move the control stick and carb heat. If nothing else, it's uncomfortable.

Thoughts?

Dr. Shuch said that some of his taller students have to fly his SportStar with padding removed. It's a different airplane, to be sure, but it's a precendent.

Seat cushions are often removed for people wearing parachutes. The bottom pad has a safety effect in that it is part of the rated crush/g-limiting impact design, but the back pad is pretty much there for comfort. Considering it was velcroed in as opposed to being upholstered on, it appears that Cessna predicted this situation arising.

"Beats hell out of me. I didn't even know it had a seat-back cushion. I'll ask the mechanic, maybe they forgot to install it "

Get a Piper Sport. It seems like it was built for taller people. I am interested in taking some lessons in the skycatcher.
