Karen and I are going camping tomorrow at a campground in Chilhowee, TN.

We thought we'd fly over it to check it out from the air.

I kept the video to 2 minutes. The video quality is just OK - the takeoff was filmed from the back seat with Karen's iPhone 5c. The rest was a GoPro just strapped to the brim of a baseball cap.

In any case, its an absolutely beautiful corner of the world!

It is beautiful. If my client hadn't been antsy to get his plane I would have swung a little further east to visit you on Monday when I ferried a Jabiru to south Florida.

Nice. TN-30/315 is my escape route up to the Cherohala, and I've seen the sign for the campground. Is it nice?

I assume you've been over to Chilhowee gliderport?

I think the camping sign on 30* is for a different one.

The turn for this one is a few miles west, at a Ranger Station, then up about 7 miles gaining a lot of altitude in the process. Beautiful views of Parkerville Lake to the right and overlooking Benton, TN to the left on the way up.

This will be our first time camping there.

Never been to the gliderport.

*We also like that loop up GA60/TN68 to Tellico Plains, then 315/30 winding back down to the Ocoee. We still need to ride some time!

unfortunately at the moment the runway is torn up at the Chilhowee Gliderport.

Come visit some time!

I flew up to 1A3 today to visit my brother and sister-in-law. We went to Pats Kountry Kitchen in McCaysville for lunch. The food was great but it was the slowest I have ever seen that resturant. I suppose since we are past the peak leaf changing season most of the tourists are gone.

The airport is looking pretty nice since the last time I was in there. Looks like the runway was recently resurfaced. Also looks like they are building more hangars. Somebody is really making a lot of nice improvements around there. The FBO staff was very friendly too.

If anybody is looking for a nice scenic area to fly to in the North Georgia mountains, this is a nice little airport to check out. Technically the airport is in Copperhill Tennessee but it is right on the Georgia/Tennessee line.

I took my daughter and son-in-law with me. We all had a great day of flying and visiting family.
