Should I use SpaceX or a Pietenpole for my trip to Mars?

Asking for a friend...

They appear to be headquartered in McLean, Virginia. Along with the CIA. In fact, they are probably a front company for the CIA. My guess is you can't get near them in a Pietenpol, and they already have Space X on speed dial.

Pietenpole because then you can camp when you get there.

I'd say the Piet. The airport is just a mile NW of town, looks to be a nice little grass strip, the Falcon booster would probably light it on fire while landing. https://goo.gl/maps/3gjs9kiecr12

Believe me, having been to Mars it is a very over rated destination.

It would have to be a really long Pietenpole...probably longer than the max height a Pietenpol could fly...

Pietenpol, definitely. Especially if you enjoy long cross country flights.
