Should I bother with sport license if I can't buy a plane?

If you get flight training for light sport can those hours with an instructor be used later to get a PPL if I use a regular CFI?

Yep. To go from sport to PPL, in additional to a few more hours, you'll need night and instrument training, if I remember correctly, plus the XC's are longer.

I did it that way. It was fun, and I learned a lot...would do it again. But it takes longer and it costs more, overall.

Yes. Also, if you take the Sport checkride and get the certificate, all your training counts toward PPL even if you used a Sport CFI.
