It's been like 2.5 years for me since I got sucked into the medical deferment process, already been through HIMS and AME told me that they have everything they need to make a decision as of ~3 months ago.

Should I inform my AME that I want to reach out to local congressperson for help before doing so? I don't want to do it without asking him if it hypothetically could cause a problem for him

It can’t, and won’t. It’s a SIMPLE process.

Goto their website, click on “help with a federal agency.”

Their job isn’t to help with a particular outcome, but to help GET an outcome, whatever that may be. And it works.

mfgdv, without question just contact your congressional liason office. Don't bother with your AME. they are there to serve you and IMO they generally do a darned poor job of it. But I would also ask you to choose (based on your Congress critter vs Senator's committee assignments- use the Senator if he's on the commerce committee.

And sometimes, just sometimes, without any admission of the two being connected, about 15 days later you get action. Even if it is a denial or a new demand (or an old demand unfulfilled, in their eyes). That is part of everyone's "duty".

I've heard you need to wait 6 months... I applied for a class 3 with SSRI path 1. Heard nothing for 7 months. Submitted a request to my congressman (who is on a committee that has FAA) and within 7 days I saw approval on medexpress and within 2 weeks had an approved SI and medical in the mail. This was mid 2025.

Get a aviation attorney and have them take lead, this is a administrative action not a medical action, common error is for a pilot to think just because it is called a medical it has much to do with health or science

Except that it's free to contact your elected representative. If that doesn't work, yea, then start paying $400/hr I suppose...

Every congresscritter has staff members for the major topics, including transportation. Get on your Rep and Senator's websites, fill out the form asking for help for Transportation. It will go to the right staffer. They do all the work.
