I have a set of seats, front and rear, from a 172. What is the best way to ship these, they dont really fit in a box.

Freight carrier such similar to FedEx LTL (less then truckload). I do this frequently for seats out of cars and trucks. www.uship.com might be of help to find a carrier.

Also, check out the bus. We've used them too in the past.

Seats are on hinges, they can come apart which makes it easier to pack. UPS, FedEx will pack them, no need to worry about finding a box, the shipper can do that. However, it's not cheap. When I was looking at sending the cherokee seats from Denver to PA, it was about $600 for all 4.

Call around to some of the freight companies and get some prices. Use UPS/FedEx to pack then find a cheaper shipper.

Where are the seats now, and what's the destination?

They are in Camarillo, Ca. I have people ask from Ak to Il. I had them on e bay but without shipping peoeple turn away. I want to list them with a shipping price.

When I ship airplane parts, ( cowlings, tail feathers etc.) I build a box using cheapo 2x2's as a frame covered with luan plywood, fastened w/ short drywall screws. Greyhound bus freight rates are the best. h

You can also wrap items like that in heavy plastic and shipping tape if you don't want to crate them. You could transports seats like that in checked baggage on an airliner if you wanted.
