I thought I would share the trials and tribulations of my Gramd niece, a cute playful little two year old who is suffering from malignant brain cancer. She was originally given about two weeks to live, but has since gotten much better with significant treatment. She is going through more suffering than anyone should ever have to endure.

My niece and her husband are struggling to survive this hardship. I can't even imagine the pain they have to endure on a constant basis. The rest of the family is doing all we can to help.

He has lost his job because of the time he had to take off to be with his daughter. Being a small business owner, I can understand the necessity of having every employee there and working, but I try to treat my employees as family, and if one had a problem like this, I would hold the job open for the employee, even if I could not afford to continue to pay them a full wage when they are not there.

When our kids are sick it tears our hearts out.

I discovered this video yesterday because our grand daughter is having issues with milk.

pay attention of the number of cancer cases that have increased since 1990

That's awful Bryon. Thoughts and prayers for the little one, and your family.

Bryon, that is tough for any family member to deal with. I'm sorry for your family's struggle. As an aside Angle Flight East flies a good number of patients to Boston as Mass General has a renound brain tumor program, pass the info along if you like.

Very sorry to hear that Bryon.

You might want to check Novocure's website ( www.novocure.com).

The company provides one of the most effective therapies for malignant brain tumors.

I don't know if children can be treated with Novocure's technology - that's something you need to find out.

I know one of their managers in America, let me know if I can provide any assistance.

All the best

Alon

My little grandniece died yesterday. She went back into the hospital earlier in the day and had severe head pain. After all of the experimental procedures and months of hospital stays, she went home for a few weeks to spend time with her family.

The tumors had been shrunk for a while, but then came back worse than before. When she went back to the hospital yesterday, she was given lots of pain killers to at least give her some relief. She lasted long enough to allow her parents and grandparents to arrive and spend a few hours with her. She was even able to speak enough to say 'I love you Mom Mom' to her grandmother. She had not been able to speak much previously.

It is sad to think of a little two year old going through this. Noone should have to see their little baby daughter go through this. Absolutely hearbreaking to watch. And you feel guilty when your own family hasn't had this kind of tragedy.

It sometimes makes me question the faith that I cling to. But somehow I find strength to continue to help the others in the family who need it.

Editing this on an IPAD is an absolute pain. It keeps shutting Safari down in the middle of typing. I have to do only a little at a time.

Bryon, that is truly heartbreaking news. You are all in my prayers tonight.

Sorry to hear, Bryon. :(

Prayers for you and your family. My wife and I lost a 2 year old in 1996. It's something I would, quite literally, not wish on my worst enemy. If you wish to talk to someone who's been there, PM me.

My prayers to you and the family. How difficult it must be.

I truly can't imagine. So sorry to hear, but more than willing to be an ear to listen.

Peace to you and yours.

So sorry to hear. I lost a good friend very recently. I know that time does heal, and such a loss will strengthen the bonds between your friends and family.

My thought and prayers goes out to you and your family Byron.

That is truly sad. A very young sick child is a tough situation.

You have my condolences.

Sorry to hear this. I was hoping you had a typo in flight in the the headline. I volunteer for Make a Wish Foundation as a wish granter. Do you know if they have put in an application yet? I'm sure Sophie would love it. www.wish.org

She went to Sesame Place and enjoyed the characters greatly.

She actually asked her parents to take care of the pets, her stuffed animals, and her brother. Apparently she sensed that she was going away. What a sweetheart.

This was m sister's granddaughter, so she was not in my immediate family. Seeing the pain and anguish they are going through, I can not even imagine the pain in my immediate family like that. I am sorry for your loss.

I recall seeing a play where a character in a classroom knew the answer, but wasn't allowed to give it. That's sort of where I've been with this thread. I really, really do not wish to self aggrandize, but my background gives me some pertinent information. Here goes.

Cancer is usually a disease of old age, because as we age we accumulate genetic damage. If some of this damage hits the genes keeping cell growth in check, you get cancers. The vast majority of cancers are in older people for this reason. Odds are many of us will get tumors as we age.

When children get cancers, especially bad ones, the genetic damage is often what we science nerds call germ-line, or something they were born with. Possibly a mistake in DNA replication, they occur. Nonetheless, that damage is in every cell. The upshot is, even if the cancer is forced into remission, you can expect more tumors in such a patient.

I guess what I'm saying with all my science speak is that the young lady's death, while horribly tragic, was likely a mitzvah. While these childhood tumors are truly horrible, they are fortunately quite rare.

Again, condolences for your loss. I can think of nothing worse than the loss of one so young.

Bryon, that's a tough break. Sometimes the people in our lives that don't get to stay very long have some of the largest impacts on us. Sounds like that's her case.

Take care.

Bryon, very sad to hear the news. Thoughts going out to the family & friends.

Prayers for you and all of your family. My Wife suffered brain cancer and died ten years ago. It was bad enough for her, at 61, but for a child, it would be so much harder for the family.

:blowingkisses:Some words of comfort like those that helped our family when my grand-nephew died seven days before his second birthday:

Just For Today
Just for today, I will try to live through the next 24 hours...not expecting to get over my child's death, but learning to live with it...one day at a time

Just for today, I'll remember my child's life, not his death, and bask in the comfort of the treasured days and moments we shared.

Just for today, I will forgive all the family and friends who didn't help or comfort me the way I needed them to. They truly did not know how.

Just for today, I will reach out to comfort a relative or friend of my child. For they are hurting too, and perhaps we can help each other.

Just for today, I will free myself from my self-inflicted burden of guilt. For deep in my heart, I know if there was anything in this world I could have done to save my child from death, I would have done it.

Just for today, I will honor my child's memory by doing something with another child, be it my own, or someone else's, because I know that would make my child proud.

Just for today, I will offer my hand in friendship to other bereaved parents, for I DO know how they feel.

Just for today, I will smile...no matter how much I hurt on the inside...for maybe if I smile a little, my heart will soften and I will begin to heal.

Just for today, I will allow myself to be happy and enjoy myself, for I know I am not deserting my child by moving on.

Just for today, I will accept that I did NOT die when my child did. My life did go on and I am the ONLY one who can make that life worthwhile again.
