Seven Devils Mnts vs Gastons Hills.

I got a kick out of some of the people talking about the mountain at the end of the runway at Gastons. Check these mountains out. (Video) Bob http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Yef2oh7NJIA

Another nice mini video-tour Bob.

Yeah, mountains, regardless of overall size, it's that first foot or so of height that hits an aircraft that is problematic.

Have you been in & out of Shearer, ID? Now that's a hill at the end of a runway.

What mountains? If it still has trees on top and no snow for at least nine months of the year, it's not a mountain.

:D

Well Bob those are certainly bigger than the hill off the runway at Gastons. I think the thing that freaked folks at Gastons out was that the hill optically appears to be right off the end of the runway.

never the less I got to get out there and see some of these strips you fly in to looks Stunningly awesome.

BTW your audio in all your videos is so clear. I have often taped flights and landings but don't know how to hook the video camera up to receive the Audio. How do you do it? And does your co pilot hold the camera or did you put a mount in the plane?

In keeping with Bob's theme............here's a video of a strip that's on a mountain, or at least, on the side of one.
The video is taken from the back seat of a 182. In the begining of the video you see the strip, which has a 25% grade.
I'd like to add that as a student my landing are getting better and better, should I improve to the level of skill required
to land on this strip I will still have NO desire to do so. EVER
I apologizes for the few seconds of seat back video. There's a point at which looking though the camera is just not
good enough. The guy that flew us in there was amazing. I know there are a lot of great bush pilots out there, I had
just never flown with one.

To answer a couple of your questions. I built a little wedged shaped platform to set my camera on. It sits up in the front window. It is held in place with some velcro strips. My Intercom is a kit I put together and it came with two cords one for audio in and one for audio out. I just plug it into my camcorder and it takes the airplane noise out and all headsets are on the tape. I need to learn how to edit a tape as these are raw tape footage as you can see. Youtube will only take so many minutes so the tapes have to be short. Bob

Sheri----- That is some landing spot, I wish you could have had the camera in the front window so I could have seen the runway a little better while he was landing, but I could tell that was not your ordinary run of the mill landing places. Thanks Bob

Adam, the quick and dirty way, which doesn't require buying any new boxes, is to take a pair of earbud headphones, plug 'em into the mic jack, and drop 'em into your headset's earcups.

To listen to what the result sounds like (with ANR off no less), go here and click on the "direct download" link at the bottom of the entry.

Cool video, thanks. I can't place the airstrip though, is it private?

BTW: If you want to watch outside when filming directly with your eyes, usually if you just "shotgun" the camera IOW, just point it in the general direction of landscapes, it works good enough.

Pretty strip, the final view back down valley really gave you a perspective on what the approach was like.
