There are three islands off the coast of Maine(actually, hundreds more): Vinalhaven, Metinicus, and Criehaven. Each has a landing strip, private.
At an recent aviation meeting I asked the man in charge of all three about the status. He came back with, "When you want to fly out to either of them just call me and I'll authorize the landings."

The above Link will show the Criehaven strip when it was under construction. The Link also has a lot of other interesting images, though unrelated to Criehaven. And if anyone would be interested in a piece of land out to sea, an old high school friend has 9 acres up for sale.
He also has an updated edition of his book, Just a Sailor, with previously unpublished photos in the latest edition.
