My iPad is acting squirrelly and I might have to send it off to be fixed. But I’m paranoid about privacy. Do I need to delete all my saved passwords and login info? Do I need to give them the password to unlock it in the first place? I think they can replace the battery without having to unlock it but what if they need to troubleshoot other stuff? I’m not sure if it’s a hardware or software problem.

Anyone sent an iPad to be fixed? To Apple or some third party and what do you do about security?

If it’s under warranty take it to the Apple Store and they will wipe it clean and give you a replacement.

No, it’s way out of warranty.

I'd back it up and nuke it. You just never know.

At least delete the nudie pictures...

Backup, then:

Settings -> General -> Reset -> Erase All Content and Settings

Don’t forget to turn off “Find My iPad” first.

When the reset as mentioned above is completed, any information on the device is unrecoverable. A backup is recommended anyway, as Apple may elect to replace the device, and almost certainly will for an iPad since they are glued closed.

Great information. Thanks everyone!
