I've been trying to get a seller to call me back for near 3 weeks, he told me he was an airline pilot and his cell didn't work outside the US but he said he would call today.

He didn't, I sent him a message thru ASO, saying today is thursday no call.

and get this as an answer.

"Tom,
I am an international pilot and landed in atl
at 7am today and then slept most of the day.
Thanks for the attitude, but I have other calls to
make before I would call you. Please look for
another plane that suits your needs. I do not
want to deal with you.

lol, jackass.

Lots of good planes out there Tom, on to the next one :)

With that much attitude, Tom, he must be.....

a Captain.

:D

Hopefully he is a better pilot than a seller, because if he is not the sky is not safe when he is flying.

On of my repeat customers was in today for a dooryard free advice call. He's down with a really really stupid orthopedic injury, Delta FO in his mid 40s. While waiting he gave our 30 year old full time CFI and DPE a lot of attitude.

It was amazing to watch this 30 year old put the bigtime 121 guy in his place....the DPE initially was diplomatic, but then afetr the FO kept dishing, he basically said, you've forgotten how to fly....and the FO admitted he only did 2 landings that month.

Each is a perspective of his own. For me, I usually don't get any of that "diss" because the A/M comes in, because he needs HELP and isn't going to give me any guff. But it was pretty revealing.

Tom, you didn't want to deal with him. Really.

It is amazing how sloppy we get after a lay off.

This guy is a case of dealing with the attitudes of todays owners/sellers/operators, and one more reason to simply clean out the hangar, turn it in, and go quietly away.

Any search is likely to turn up a few planes that simply can't be bought due to seller idiosyncrasies. The only logical step is to scratch through that line on your list of prospects and go find those that can be purchased. There's no reason to create any heartburn or wasted emotion, any more than you would if the plane had turned out to have spent a few weeks submerged in salt water that the seller had forgotten in mention in his ad.

Every plane has some amount of unknown maintenance required. The required maintenance on this one includes groveling and ground worshiping.

Maybe, but just to play devil's advocate here, there are two things we don't know:

1) What Tom actually said in message

2) What the demand is on the particular airplane in question

He may have several people in line wanting to look at the airplane and if he genuinely felt that Tom was being pushy, he has every right to want to sell to someone else.

Not saying that is necessarily the case, but more info is needed. If the situation was that Tom came across as pushy and the guy has other potential buyers, then no amount of groveling or ego stroking is going to change that.

MY first message to him was basically " I am interested in buying your aircraft, can we make arrangements to see it. giving him my call back info,"

He calls and tells me he will be out of town until the 5th of Nov. and he will call when he gets back.

the 5th passes, I'm busy with the insurance company etc,

I send him a second message saying the same thing, A week goes by, no response.

I send him a message saying why don't you answer my messages.

he e-mails me that he will call on Thursday, which he didn't, so I sent him another message thru ASO message service saying "Thursday, no call" and get this as a response.

Last night I made an offer on the 182, and got a refusal this morning.

Oh Well.

My guess is that he either has other offers and you somehow rubbed him the wrong way, or he is indeed full of himself. Either way, like others have said, there are plenty more airplanes worthy of ownership besides that one.

I think that is a sign that you should go back to looking at tailwheels!

Rumor is that our airplane was in that "un-buyable because the owner was unbearable" category until he sold it to my co-owners through a broker. Co-owners say he messed up at least one possible sale before they bought the airplane.

For a few years we would get comments from mechanics and others who were relieved to find out we were the new owners, when they saw the airplane out front, and they were relieved the Marine who owned it prior to us, wasn't waiting in the hangar.

He may or may not have been a piece of work. Hard to say. I never met him. It's a little weird to get those kind of comments on the ramp, if you never met the guy.

Time to move on then.

Buy an RV! ;)

Got my preview plans yesterday, making plans to go drag mine home after the first of the year.

Uh Oh... You are showing symtoms of homebuilding,,,

Take two cleco's and call me in the morning...:rolleyes2::rofl:

Did someone say they are buying? :goofy:

;)

Nice to see civility returning to POA. Bud Lite for me please. :dunno:

Bud Lite? I could've sworn I offered beer.

Seriously, though... I am sorry about that pot shot at Cap. It was much less a shot at him personally, and more a joke about the reputation (deserved or not) of airline captains to be a little difficult from time to time. But it wasn't well thought out, and I do apologize.

Toured the Luftunsia Connie rebuild in Lewiston Maine a couple of months back. There had to be about a million on that bird. I'm looking forward a return visit. If I recall, the first flight is scheduled for August '13.

Like all other professions, some nice guys and some turreds. As sellers of airplanes, the last two I have encountered have fallen into the latter category. One couldn't understand that the market doesn't always go up and the other didn't really have time to screw around answering questions posed by potential buyers.

lol, I think the last person on this forum you should ever feel you need to apologize to is Capitan.

I am fairly confident he has kidding, and if he wasn't, he sure as hell should be.

Was this on Craig's list? A friend of mine in the Puget Sound went through a similiar dance. It turned out to be a scam.

I have a gut feeling that this is a scammer, and we have an other family member that is starting at square one to buy the XP.

and so far he has started the same routine. He'll call back Friday.

We will see if he wants a down payment prior to showing the aircraft.

No worries. It's all good.
