Will Canadian customs give me a hard time if I fly into Canada with an unsealed bottle of scotch in he cargo area?

Not a problem, usually can pas will usually clear you by telephone.

It's the ship's stock. ;)
Just make sure you leave it in the airplane until the customs man leaves, if he shows up, which is rare from my experiences with Can-pass. :) Canadian customs have always been simple and friendly, unlike some of their US counterparts. ;) I have only been met by Canadian customs one time, about 18 years ago, we changed our arrival time 3 times due to a mechanical issue and they showed up, searched the plane and busted me for bringing my grandmother and great-aunt's Christmas presents without declaring them. He said it was to much trouble to write it up and I would lose my Can-pass privileges if he did. That is one face to face with a Canadian customs officer in 30+ trips, other than airports that had customs on the field. :)

Although I have flown into Canada way more than 30 times, I would say that 1 in 30 is a pretty accurate ratio for the times we have been met by Canadian customs, and we mostly fly to airports where there is customs on the field. In fact you can see the customs office from the place we go most often.

Why on Earth would anyone take whiskey into Canada?
Because there is a chance I will get there, and they won't have any Macallan on the ramp. Or even worse, they may only have that Canadian swill and I will be forced to drink that!

I flew a couple friends to Wisconsin for a wedding, one guy shows up with 2 coolers full of Miller Lite, iced down and ready to go! I asked him why and he wasn't sure they had Miller Lite in Wisconsin! We came home with empty coolers except for some cheese curds! o_O
