Well it finally happened. After 18 years of flying I finally heard a pilot say what we all think. Here is the transcription I heard on tower last Saturday at PBI.

Tower: "Cesnna 1234, say altitude"
Cessna: "Altitude"

-pause-

Tower: "Ya know, I've waited 15 years for someone to say that"
Cessna: "I've just always wanted to do that..."
Tower: "Well, today's our magic day!"

Priceless. Before everyone goes nuts, it was a very quiet part of the day and not much was going on by PBI standards. There were a couple comments later from other pilots and the whole mood was light. I sensed no agitation from anyone so lets not interject any here.

I've been tempted many times.

Maybe one day the opportunity will arise and go as well as this one did.

My instructor and I say it off the air all the time. :) Never had the guts to push the button and say it. :)

Every time I am tempted, I think of the follow up: "Cessna 1234, say cancel IFR" and that kills the temptation.

funny!

:goofy:

Tower: "Cessna 31M, how much fuel on board?"

31M: "Minus twenty minutes."

Tower: "31M, how many souls on board?"

31M: long pause. "Um, eight."

Tower: "Cessna 31M, I thought your type was a Skyhawk?"

31M: "Yeah."

Tower: "Then how can you have eight people aboard?"

31M: "Huh? I don't. I have four."

Tower: "Oh, um. Nevermind. You are cleared to land at the nearest runway of your choice. Winds calm."

Imagine if he was hauling a bunch of shoes in the baggage area...

"How many souls on board?"

"Around 250."

or....

"No sole on board, we were grouper fishing."

We have military aircraft training in our area at times. I have never had the guts but always wanted to throw out...

Tower: 6PC 2, F-16s at 2 O'Clock 4 miles, north bound
6PC: "Roger, Switching to guns"
or
6PC "I have the bogies in sight"

Ya know, they really should make the phrase 'report'.

Tower: Cessna 1234, report altitude

Now there's no devil on my shoulder trying to get me to wise crack.

Report altitude? What did altitude do wrong that I have to report him? Snitches get stitches!

I wouldn't recommend either of those.

Listening yesterday to a gent coming into HHR behind me.
"Cessna 1234, 5 miles out with Romeo"
"Cessna 1234, please Ident"
"Cessna 1234"
".......Cessna 1234, please Ident"
"uhhhhh "Cessna 1234?"
"Cessna 1234, first find the transponder......" :)

The pilot's response makes perfect sense assuming each person on board had two feet.

Lincoln Tower: RV-12 cleared to land runway 18.
Me: RV-12 cleared to land 18.
Me: Lincoln tower are you sure you want me to land on the 13,000' runway?
Lincoln tower: Affirmative, we have seen your landings before. :yikes:

A buddy of mine was manning the tower and wanted me to do a flyby on 18 to see the newly built RV-12 (second one in the country to fly at the time :D). When I asked him latter why runway 18 he said it was closer to the tower and he could get a better look at the plane, but didn't want to say that on the air. All he could think of was slamming me about my landings.   :lol:Too funny!
