Thanks for posting the video.

I read $2B.
It was never clear to me who footed the bill for that.
I understand there were multiple insurers...but also read that they did not pay for it all - something about the reinsurance market was involved.
I wonder what Carnival's out of pocket was, too.

Oh for sure on the multiple insurers, these big programs always spread risk as most insurers are not allowed to accept single risks this high on their reserves ratio. Some times you'll have 5 major underwriters on one section of the policy, especially the liability on one of these things; and the salvage pays out of liability.

The video was very nicely done with great footage. I was pretty frustrated by the tone of constant hysteria in the writing and narration. Sadly, that seems the case with everything these days - even documentaries from respectable sources like NOVA.

This would have been a whole lot better with a straightforward, calm, narration and none of the pseudo-drama. It made if feel like a TLC reality show.

Yep, everything has to be drama these days. Just focus on the technical achievement of a daunting process, and the struggles of achieving anything in a Siesta society.

They have to keep it "exciting" to keep the focus of people with the attention span of a goldfish (Disclaimer: No offense meant to goldfish)

Just film trying to get three Italians to all pull on one line, in the same direction, at the same time. That's 15 minutes of WWE level excitement right there.

Actually, not the unions per se, but if you've lived or worked in Italy, you're familiar with the term Il Sciopero. They will go on strike for just about any purpose (not necessarily our idea of organized labor). It's so common that there is a permanent sign that they can flip over on the toll booths on the AutoStrada that tells you they're on strike today (and that's good because it means you don't have to pay).

Italy is in enough trouble right now I didn't see much of that, nor was it a complaint from my buddies at Titan who worked the salvage. It was mostly getting them to work. The French OTOH:rofl: The French ATC went on strike shutting down most of the flights in Western Europe because the EU was looking at a EU ATC...because French ATC kept going on strike shutting down flights all across Europe.:rofl::rofl:
