Sales/Use tax on planes in Georgia

I paid GA use tax on my Sky Arrow for the couple of years it was based in GA. When I moved it to Copperhill, TN I had to document that I did so (hangar lease) in order for GA to stop bugging me. I called the Polk County TN tax office and they told me no tax was due on the aircraft unless used for commercial operations. I did go back and forth with the Loudon County, TN tax collector when I moved up here, but they seem to have dropped the matter for now.

I can deal with 9.25% tax on everything and no income tax, as by controlling spending one can control taxation to a degree. Also, it means those paid under the table still have to participate in funding the government resources they use and enjoy.
Agree, I don’t have a problem with sales tax, it’s the recurring taxation of tangible assets they call ‘property’ that does it for me. Those toys are MY property, not the local governments. I might change my way of thought if I saw meaningful productivity out of my tax dollars, but I very rarely do. Just to get the road department out to fill in some pot holes is like pulling teeth and if/when they do, it’s the sorriest job you ever saw! My dog could’ve done a better job!

“...for the couple of years...” Are you saying you paid ‘use tax’ more than once?

How come I never hear of people from the south retiring to the north?

For some of the same reason you don't see people escaping to Socialist/Communist countries such as Cuba and Venezuela. And the weather too. Who wants to shovel snow and deal with that for several months out of the year while retired? o_O

Almost all of my dad's aunts and uncles have retirement places in the UP or northern MI.
(and places in FL)

I may retire north but will also have a system to melt the driveway so I don't have to shovel.

Semantics. Revolving taxation of property is the objection here. Calling it something vs other is immaterial to me.

ETA: TN so far has the tax structure most compatible with my values and personal holding portfolio/lifestyle. Texas is also fairly compatible, as is Florida. Our problem is the culture side of things, but as someone who got summarily gentrified out of his formative home, I've learned to take the good with the bad and count my blessings. My wife is a lot more combative about the culture stuff, which is why relocation is being contemplated out of Texas. I think TN has a good chance for it since she's said FL is right out, and she likes green hilly places. Time will tell. If money were no object i too would be back home in the Caribbean. Alas, life ain't fair type thing, gotta make lemonade.
